Vocational Hospitality Program

Feeding Dreams Cambodia, based in an urban slum area of Siem Reap has launched a new, innovative on-site program.

Each year, the Dreams Training Center provides 60 youths who have had minimal education with a 10 month intensive training program at our custom built facility. Our comprehensive curriculum prepares each student for a career in the rapidly expanding hospitality industry in Siem Reap.

Focusing on one of the following 4 departments: Housekeeping, Front-office, Cooking, or Food and Beverage Services, each trainee learns highly demanded technical skills along with vital life skills including financial literacy, negotiation and leadership skills.

Requirements

After six months of personal development and department focused technical training at the Dreams Training Center, the students then undergo a four month internship with local 4-5 star hotels.

After ten months, final analysis and examinations are conducted, followed by graduation and job placement.

Graduation

Upon completion of the program, students will receive a Qualification from the Ministry of Education and the Department of Tourism, and receive employment positions with local 4-5 star hotels with competitive salaries and fair working conditions.

As alumni of the Dreams Training Centre each graduate will be entitled to on-going mentoring and guidance as they progress through their career.

Providing underprivileged youth with an accreditation so that they can earn a wage and live a life above the poverty line, without exploitation.

The Issue A significant challenge facing Cambodian youth is a lack of employment opportunities. Those who are employed often find themselves working in exploitative conditions, earning less than the minimum wage and without a contract.

How we address it Each year Feeding Dreams provides approximately 60 youths, who have had minimal education, with 10 month intensive training course at our custom built facility preparing them for a career in the rapidly expanding hospitality industry in Siem Reap.

Recruitment Our community outreach staff work diligently to recruit candidates who have come from the most disadvantaged conditions and who are the most enthusiastic to learn. Home visits are carried out to assess the socio economic situation of each applicant.

In-house training Focusing on one of the following 4 departments: House-Keeping, Front- Office, Cooking, or Food and Beverage Services. Each trainee is taught highly demanded technical skills alongside vital life skills, delivered by experienced hospitality professionals.

Training standard The curriculum delivered at our facility follows the ASEAN standard of operations and is recognised internationally in 10 countries throughout South East Asia.

Vital life-skills We direct focus to both technical training and to teaching core personal skills such as ethics, self-value, compassion, sex education, financial literacy, negotiation, leadership skills, English and Computer literacy.

Orientation excursions Our impoverished teenagers have never entered high-end facilities, so to further ensure that our once exploited youth are confident to undertake their internships, various orientations to hotels and tourist sites are carried out.

4 Month Internships After six months of department focused technical training at the DTC, the students are then placed in a four month internship with our partner 4-5 star hotels based on their expertise.

Mentoring and counselling Through ongoing assessment reports, our partner hotels work closely with our skilled trainers so that they can continue to provide the best guidance to our youths throughout their internships at the hotels.

Graduation Upon completion of the course students attend a formal graduation ceremony where they are presented with a qualification from the Department of Tourism and the Department of Labour & Vocational Training, and job placement with local high end hotels.

Job Placement Graduates go on to receive employment contracts at reputable hotels with a fair wage and good conditions. Within one year they are in full-time employment and are able to live a life above the poverty line without exploitation.

Alumni As alumni of the Dreams Training Center, each graduate will be entitled to ongoing mentoring and guidance as they progress through their career. Should they need support gaining future employment our team will always be there to support them.

Alleviating poverty It has been demonstrated by our alumni, post-employment the lifestyle of not only our graduates but their entire families drastically improves. By empowering one poor person, it has a ripple effect throughout the entire community.

With a true heart for the poor, our dedicated team are all from humble beginnings. Each have overcome tragedy and through hard work and determination have built successful careers within the Hospitality sector in Cambodia.

These special individuals proudly motivate and inspire our Cambodian youth to believe in themselves and reach their full potential. They act as dependable mentors throughout the training course, and provide ongoing support to the Alumni as they progress through their careers.
