Meet Mr. Srey Vannak

Greeting! My name’s Srey Vannak. I was born in July, 1989 in the big family with 9 people in Vichea Chen village, Sangkat II, Ti Roum Khet Siem Reap, Siem Reap province. It takes about 20 minutes from Feeding Dreams Cambodia to my house. My father is a police man but now he retired already and my mother is housewife. Unfortunately, my mother had a serious illness that’s why she can’t do something normally.

During my childhood, I always told my mother that I really want to study like my older brothers but my parents were so sad when they heard like that because I can’t walk the same as other people. At last, they decided to take me to school so I started primary school when I was 8 years old. At first I couldn’t go to study by myself; fortunately, my older brother always helped me to take me from home to school and from school back home.

After I spent 6 years in primary school and I moved to secondary school. The secondary school was further than old one. It took about 5 km from my house but something was better because I could ride bicycle otherwise I attended the class regularly. During that time, I also work to get small income to support my study as well. I successfully finished my high school in 2009.

I really wanted to study at university, but I couldn’t afford the university fee that’s why I missed one year. In 2010, Because of my parents wanted me to study in University, they got loan from the bank for my first year. The next year I tried work in the day time and study in the afternoon time to pay school by myself. I studied Information Technology(IT) at Build Bright University in Siem Reap City. It was so hard subject with programing and coding and difficult for finding the job as well, but I love it. In the middle of August 2014, I graduated from University. In October 2015, I passed exam for teacher training. I spent one year to study that subject at National Institute of Education (Teacher college) in Phnom Penh City. I really want to pursue the Master Degree. Therefore, if I have enough ability to pay for school one day, I will go to Master Degree and the last one is Doctor Degree.

Nowadays, I am working as an English Teacher in Feeding Dreams Cambodia from 8:00 am to 10:30 am in the morning, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the evening. I love my job so much and I hope my English get better and better in the future by this job. I like sharing what I knew to everyone around me, especially, to the poor children. I really love them. Actually, I hope that their future is better than me. They can help their family and all the people in their community.

I hope in the future in Cambodia, many people will get better education, especially for the poor family and they will get away from poverty and illiterate by NGO as Feeding Dreams Cambodia and others. Here is not only providing English to every child but it provides the training course center for the adults as well and it assists them to find a job after graduate the course, as reception, service, bartender and hotel worker.

Finally, I hope here will be more volunteers and donators come and support this NGO as possible as they can. There are more and more poor families, jobless and illiterate people are waiting you to help.
